Wow..I have no time for this

How did I ever think I'd have time to write a blog??? Really? I'm lucky to be able to go to the bathroom by myself.

This is my doodle...he's so big now.  That's all. No time no time...

He's a monkey

My son is a climber. He sees a stack of toys as a challenge. Is absolutely fearless and is going to drive me bonkers with worry. He started walking around 9 months. He is now 10 months. He's my lil monkey.

He's the sweetest, cutest little guy but man does he wear me out sometimes. It's hard to fit everything into one day. It's a battle to get my toes painted. No more are the days of straightening my hair and painting my nails.

Actually I've perfected the sock bun. Easiest hairstyle ever that doesn't look all a mess. (google it)

Well off to bed.

Cheers,
M

Rollin down the street in my stroller sippin on apple juice.

So, I know I do this...I'm not sure if every parent does or not but I make all sorts of things into songs.

For example:

Take the tune "boogie nights" and change it to

" Boogie Wipes, when you need them, they are here to partay, boogie wipes, wipe your nose let's get it started. I love the boogie boog wipes, cuz boogie wipes are always the best in town."

Oh yeah, that's an original.

How about take the song "Gin and Juice"

Altered to:

"Rollin down the street in my stroller sippin on apple juice, laid back , with my mind on my milk and my milk on my mind. "

"Who's that girl" has become "Da da da da, da da da da, Who's that boy?"

OK so that one's not great!

Y'all get the idea.

Oh--another one "Dirty bit" changed to "Dirty butt"

Get the "cool jerk" tune in your head.....now change it to "Clean butt"

I do this all the time...I would love to hear anyone elses.

I have to hold him down and pry his eyes open!

So, I"m home with AJ today. He has had pink eye, a double ear infection and RSV in the last week! This is my second day off of work. He's handling it pretty well actually. He's now almost 8 months!!!

It's like a supreme feat to get eye drops in his eyes four times a day. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  I have to hold him down and pry his eye open and hope it gets in there!

Giving him his antibiotic is now also a chore because he assumes anytime we go near his face we are putting in eye drops. I ended up getting bubblegum flavored medicine up his nose and in his hair this morning.

He's crawling, he's standing on his own, he is into EVERYTHING.

I have no more time to write right now as he is demanding my attention.

Mother's Guilt

I was talking to one of my girl friends the other day about struggles as a new mother. We had both talked about how being a working mother is tough. You struggle everyday with dropping off your baby at daycare and only being able to see them a few hours a day. Any activites that you do that don't involve the baby at home you feel guilty about. I guess that's mother's guilt. But really, why do we feel like we have to be perfect. We're supposed to be a good mother and wife, successful at our job, keep the house clean, cook meals, and still have time to make ourselves look good. WOW! I mean really....that's not even possible. Luckily, my husband helps a lot with the cooking and cleaning but I still feel pressure to do it all.

When will this stop? When will I realize that I have to give up some things to be good at others. Obviously, my most imporrant job is to be a good mom to AJ.

Well, AJ is sick and that's all the time I have to write for the week.

Holy stress!

Ok, so we are moving! We are trying to sell our house and of course buy a new one in a town three hours away. I am also commuting up to my new office two days a week. AJ is teething and is going through a bit of seperation anxiety and perhaps a growth spurt!

So, I am stressed! The new job is very interesting and very very busy!

As you can see above, AJ can stand with support. He cannot go from sitting to standing on his own but he is still growing so fast!

So the title of my blog is raising a baby as a full time working mom while trying to stay sane. I'm on the edge of sanity looking over! I know we will make it through this and everything will be great, but man it is hard right now.

The good news is, I just got an email from the daycare in my office building. They have an opening starting February 13th! How great is that?

He's so cool his hair grows in a mohawk!

Months Two through Five

Month Two: Still at home and going a bit crazy!

By the second month, I was starting to go a bit stir crazy! I loved being home with lil AJ but I longed for time out of the house talking to adults. I would go to CVS when my husband got home or would just go drive around and listen to music for awhile. Of course, I was never gone for more than 15 minutes....I just couldn't seem to take time for myself without feeling guilty. A word of advice, try your best to have some time to yourself...for your sake, your baby's sake, and your husband's sake. By month two breastfeeding was second nature (see I told you it would get easier). He was getting cuter (as if that was possible) and growing by leaps and bounds.

Month three: I'm not going to cry....yeah right!

By month three I was back to work. Little did I know I would encounter one of the hardest things I ever had to do....leave my baby at daycare! I told myself I wouldn't cry until I got out to the car! HA! As soon as I went to try to leave, I couldn't and I was in tears. Of course, it's a normal response. You're leaving your baby with "strangers" for the first time. But I thought I could be tough and power through it. Not only did I cry at daycare but about 3/4 of the way to work. It was a rough few days but it did get easier. I made my first day a Friday, so I wouldn't have to suffer through a whole week of being away from AJ and the next week I took off Wednesday so I was only away from him a few days at a time at first. I would highly recommend that!

Month Four: He smiles, He laughs, He's perfect!
Well, let me tell you....nothing is sweeter than a baby laugh and a smile at you. It makes anything that was hard in the first three months all worth while. He looks so grown up in his 4 month picture and he has grown. He's so much more fun at this age. We also started rice cereal which he ate pretty well. Being the typical boy, he found fart noises sooo funny as well as telling him he had "stinky feet". He had his first vacation this month...to Phoenix. He flew on a plane...which he was great on, went swimming for the first time, and went to his first "work conference". He was the life of the party!

Month Five:Sitting up, Standing up, Oh my!

Yes that's right at five months, he could sit up on his own. Well, he couldn't go from laying down to sitting up ....but once sitting up he supported himself. He also stands will support...but doesn't quite have the balance thing down. He's getting more hair but mostly in the middle. We joke that's he's so cool, his hair just grows in a mohawk!

Love this little man and can't wait to see what's next!

Aj's got a sick rummy tum tum

Well, it's officially happened baby AJ is sick. I had to go pick him up from daycare today because he threw up everything he ate. Poor lil bugger! I keep asking him how his rummy tum tum is doing (his tummy) and he just doesn't seem to feel well. He's thrown up on daddy twice already and he's just not quite the happy boy he usually is. See that pouty face!

His favorite toy is still his wipes! Yes, we got him all of these expensive toys and his favorite thing right now is a package of wipes. Don't get me wrong, he likes his dog "Scout" and his pig tambourine as well, but those wipes are just his favorite!

My guess is that he'll need extra snuggles tonight.

Maybe he's sick from Ohio State's performance this weekend. I think that may make anyone want to puke....or cry!

Your life will be sucked up into a tornado and spit back out!

So I mentioned that AJ (my son) is now about 5.5 months old. Here's a brief recap of the first month.

July 20th--AJ was born at 2:29AM ( After 16 hours in labor, this is a story in and of itself)
The first month was a lot of adjusting. No one really tells you how hard it is to have a new baby. Everyone tells you your life will change, but it doesn't just change it's thrown up into a tornado and spit back out. You will be covered in pee, puke, poop, etc. You will wipe up spit up with your shirt, and there will be days where you can barely fit in a 5 minute shower. If you're breastfeeding you will encounter a whole other set of challenges. Your breasts will hurt and you'll want to give up! But if you're anything like me, you'll keep on going because you know it will get easier (and it DOES) and that it's the best thing for your baby!

I was not prepared! Don't get me wrong, AJ was planned and we were so excited to have him but nothing can preapre you for this. Looking back now, it wasn't so bad. I have a very handsome little man that now smiles, laughes, rolls over and is getting ready to crawl. But at first all they do is cry, pee, poop, sleep, and eat. Take help whereever you can get it!

Here he is at one month old!

Once you get through the first month, it gets easier. It was great once I didn't have to support his head to hold him.

Ladies--if you're breastfeeding go out and buy ice packs and breast shells. Nap when you can and make it a point to get out of the house everyday.

Men--Be supportive! Do NOT under any circumstances compare your breastfeeding wife to a cow. (My husband was great!!!!) Cook and clean and help with the baby whenever you can.

What Raisin' Baby Cain is all about

So, I decided to start a blog...why? Well, I am like many other women out there. I work full time, my husband works full time and we have a new baby. Well, I say new...he is now 5.5 months old. This blog is dedicated to talking about real issues and sharing funny parenting stories. As much as we hate to admit it, we've all done some things that might not have turned out like we'd hoped.

A bit about me: I like to think I'm a young mom, although I am 30 (shhhhh!). I work very hard at my job (I just got a promotion!). I enjoy making crafts...when I have time, cooking (mostly baking), taking on new challenges, watching any before/after shows (mostly on HGTV), I am an only child (gasp! (and no I NEVER wanted a brother or sister)). I will probably tend to share random stories as well as talking about raising my baby.....don't worry...I'm told I am a great story teller.

So there it is, my first entry. Oh did I mention, I have the cutest baby ever!!! (Well, I did now!)

Hoping to make you laugh, smile, think, and give you great advice and ideas,

M
